Customer Interviews No. 3

1) Describe your interviewing strategy.
My interview strategy did not change much, as it only had the addition of the note card which read as follows:
“Our service will provide you with hassle-free laundry service by collecting, your laundry, washing it, folding it, and returning it to you doorstep on a weekly basis.
To participate, my company will provide a laundry bag to you (that will accommodate 3 normal loads of laundry) that you will fill and request a pick up. Once collected, your clothes will be wash, dried, neatly folded, and returned to your doorstep within 48 hours.
There are no contracts or fees and you will only be charged when we pick up your laundry. Additional bags to accommodate more than 3 loads at a time can be rented as well.
What are your thoughts and questions?”
I continued with my same questions from last week (although I dropped the laundromat question as it didn’t seem relevant):
1)    How many times do you do laundry per week? How many hours does that equate to?
2)    What do you think a fair price would be for someone to handle your laundry completely? (Or, how much would you expect in compensation if you were doing the same amount of laundry for someone else?)
3)    What expectations would you have from such a service? (IE Time from pick up to return, green products at a premium ,etc)
2) Conduct the interviews.

3) Reflect on what you learned.
First, I learned that people were extremely rude this time around. I’m not sure what the issue was, as I did not change my approach, but had many more rejections (and people being downright rude for no reason) than the other interviews combined.
I learned that people would value the service between $25 and $50 dollars for approximately 3 loads of laundry per week. Although I wouldn’t expect someone to use the service every single week, I imagine taking the load off of them (pun intended) for even a week every month would add value back into their lives. I do not expect to change much, as I received consistent feedback from last week to this week, and I think it is a viable project that could be successful.

  1. Hey Shane I forgot to do this assignment so I am not able to relate mine to yours. However, I did do the first two so I have an idea for what you did. That service would be incredibly useful. I would actually use it. For 25-50 dollars I would use it for sure. I used LAZE Laundry and remember it being incredibly expensive. Therefore, if you were able to cut the price you would definitely have a leg up on the competition. My idea was a promotional company that specialized in night life entertainment.

  2. As a college student that doesn't have much time when it comes to school, being active on campus and hunting for a job; I think this would be great. I normally wash clothes once or twice a week so this is very appealing to me. I wouldn't go over and be changed more. The only thing I'm iffy about is when I would get it back. Takes me 2 hours to do laundry so if it was 24-36 hours, that would appeal to me more.

  3. I don't know if I fully understand the goal of your service. I throw my laundry in, which takes about a minute, and then continue on with my day. To me personally, I don't see it as anything I'd be interested in, but that's not to say there aren't people interested in this! However, for the people that would be interested in a laundry service, I'm curious what's so different about your service then existing services? In Gainesville, where I live, I already know of at least one company that does exactly as you described, so my suggestion would be maybe altering your description on the notecard a little bit just to better highlight why your company is unique! Besides that comment, I think you did a great job and really prepared well for this assignment!
Feel free to check out my idea!

  4. Shane I think the addition of the notecard is great. It definitely keeps you focused on the questions you need to ask. I’m sorry that you didn’t have the best experience with your interviews this time around, maybe you caught some people on a bad day. However, people being rude, shows how determined you are because you continued with your interviews in a polite manner regardless of how others had treated you earlier.
