Idea Napkin No. 1

1) You. I would consider myself capable of building my idea into a full-time pursuit. I believe my experiences in the corporate world, mixed with my entrepreneurial foundations would give me the operations/analytical insight balanced with the outgoing personality required to make the sales and build the business.

2) What are you offering to customers? I am giving customers more time to do other things by relinquishing the time wasted with doing laundry. I firmly believe that laundry is probably the least fun and most time-consuming (since you have to wait so long for things to wash and dry, and sometimes you forget clothes in the washer) chore that we face on a daily basis and my service could help my customers avoid spending that time which they could spend with their family or other activities. By making it extremely convenient for them (drop off and pick up), with a fair price (based around how much value they think it provides), I think I could save people time and sanity.

 3) Who are you offering it to? My target customer would be a two-income household families where everyone barely has time to cook a decent dinner for their family at night, much less spend the reported 3-5 hours a week on a mind-numbing task such as laundry. Single people/young professionals and college students likely wouldn’t want the service, as their laundry chore is only for their own clothes, not multiple people. Also, families where a spouse stays home likely wouldn’t go for the service as laundry could be a daily routine in which they would normally spend their 9 to 5.

4) Why do they care? I had one of my interviewees state that she would value her time spent doing laundry at $300 a week. If I can provide the service at a fraction of the cost, with prompt deliveries (so their wardrobe cycle isn’t interrupted), I can provide not only immediate value, but also giving back to them the most valuable thing of all: their time.

5) What are your core competencies? I think my corporate background in operations would give me a strong ability to make an extremely lean and efficient process and always finding ways to improve and simplify the process, not only for the business side, but for my customers as well. I think my passion for ABSOLUTELY HATING LAUNDRY will come into play too as a competency and it might just rub off on my customers in order to get them to share the same sentiment.

  1. Hi Shane, I really like the concept you came up with so that people's wardrobe cycle is not interrupted. I think many busy professionals could benefit from this venture and would enjoy the very competitive pricing!

  2. Hi Shane, I think the concept you came up with is interesting! Especially if you can offer your product at a low enough cost for it to be viable. I think it's good that you also have a target audience this early on in your business plan. I am interested to see how your business venture develops!

  3. Hi Shane! I think this is a wonderful idea! Coming from a single-parent home, I can definitely attest to the fact that laundry takes up a lot of time. I think the service you are providing would do wonders for the large family, especially if it was at a reasonable price. The only thing I would worry about would be items of clothing going missing or getting damaged in the process. Just something to think about as you move forward. Over all, great idea! 4. Hey Shane, I think it's an interesting concept, it would just take a little implementation; similar to one of the many daily delivery services. Keep working on it and you might get it working for real. If you have the time, come check out my blog! http://loganbrownuf.blogspot.com/2016/02/idea-napkin-no-1.html
